Ted and Kay Golitz
Furthering the work of Dr. Forchetti and making a difference in the lives of Alzheimer’s patients

Ted and Kay Golitz

Like many generous couples, Ted and Kay Golitz have been more than happy to contribute to countless worthy causes and organizations throughout their lives. But after hearing Concetta M. Forchetti, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Director, Memory Disorders Center, at the Alexian Neurosciences Institute make a presentation on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases at the Garlands in Barrington a while back, the Golitz's discovered a way that they could give a gift that would be especially meaningful and rewarding. In speaking with Dr. Forchetti after her presentation, the Golitz's learned that Dr. Forchetti would not be able to attend the upcoming Alzheimer's Association's 10th International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders in Madrid, Spain, because of budgetary constraints. "We were so impressed by Dr. Forchetti that I suggested to Kay we underwrite her trip to Spain so she could attend," says Ted. Kay agreed wholeheartedly and, because of their generosity, Dr. Forchetti was able to participate in the conference in July. "It was very satisfying to see something specific accomplished with our donation," says Kay.

The gift was especially meaningful for the Golitz's because Kay's mother suffered from Alzheimer's disease for more than 25 years. "We really wanted to make a difference, and we felt this was something we could do to further the work Dr. Forchetti is doing [at the Neurosciences Institute] in the area of Alzheimer's disease," says Ted.

The conference, which is held every two years, is invaluable, according to Dr. Forchetti, because it brings together the leading experts in degenerative brain disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases and other forms of dementia. "This conference gives you a global view of the field," says Dr. Forchetti. "It puts you at the forefront of what's happening in research, clinical application and understanding of these diseases, and keeps you abreast of the latest information about clinical trials, new medications and other breakthroughs. Just as importantly, this conference gave me the opportunity to network with other colleagues who, like me, have dedicated their practices to treating these patients."

Concetta M. Forchetti, MD, PhD

Dr. Forchetti says she is very grateful to Ted and Kay for making it possible for her to make the trip to Madrid for this important conference. "Everything I wanted to know was right there," she says. "It means everything to me that I was able to attend."

Ted and Kay Golitz are glad they could make it happen with their gift to the Foundation that they designated for this particular purpose. "I am so impressed with the philosophy of the Alexian Brothers and their history of caring for everyone in need," says Kay who began to learn about the work of the Alexian Brothers and Dr. Forchetti through a series of breakfasts, luncheons and seminars she began attending in the community just a few years ago. "Dr Forchetti is such an excellent doctor," says Kay. "One can tell by listening to her that she is organized, knowledgeable and so compassionate. We have received great personal satisfaction from knowing our contribution has helped her attend the conference."
