Feelings of isolation, being different or vulnerable can lead to depression, eating disorders, self-injury,
risky behavior or drug use. Mental illness is often misunderstood in our society yet one in five children will
suffer with a mental health issue. Sadly, two thirds of these children will not receive adequate help because their
families cannot afford to provide professional guidance, or do not have sufficient insurance coverage to pay for treatment.
In the past three years, the need for charity care at our hospital has nearly doubled. In 2004, through our
operational effectiveness, Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital was able to provide over $650,000 in charity
care to patients and families in our area. As a not-for-profit mental health healthcare provider, we need your help to
extend our reach to many more area children in need of our services.
The Community Encouragement Fund for Mental Health has been established to specifically help children and adolescents
who have no place else to turn for help. You can also designate your gift to help a child or adult who is undergoing
treatment in one of four programs:
- Depression Treatment Services
- Eating Disorders Program
- Chemical Dependancy Treatment Services
- Self Injury Recovery Services
